New Building
For over 220 years, First Baptist Church has gathered in the heart of Wakefield, proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ in word and deed. In our building, the Tall Spire pre-school served hundreds of local families. It was the birthplace of the Wakefield Food Pantry. The Shepherd’s Table ministry served meals to up to 100 area individuals and families each month. God was worshipped. Believers were Baptized; Couples exchanged wedding vows. Families mourned and said their goodbyes in Memorial services.
Tragically, on October 23, 2018, the historic landmark church building was destroyed by a lightning strike and subsequent fire. Both congregation and community were devastated. Though few in number but great in faith, the people of FBC determined to rebuild both building and congregation. We believe in the God of Resurrection and we’re seeing Him bring new vitality to our people. We believe He is building a new center for ministry at 8 Lafayette St.
The Gospel hasn’t changed, but the way we practice and present it has. This is a new building for a new day!
